Saturday's super-middleweight unification bout between Billy Joe Saunders and Canelo Alvarez "is off" according to Saunders' father, Tom.

Saunders missed this afternoon's face-off amidst ongoing disputes over a range of issues, from the chosen venue, to the judges scoring the fight.

The straw that broke the camels back is the argument over the size of the ring. Tom Saunders, Billy Joe's dad and coach, told iFL TV in an exclusive interview that he "can't see them coming face-to-face because the issue with the ring still isn't sorted".

"Canelo's put an 18ft ring, which I think is an amateur ring". "What they're trying to do is take Billy Joe's legs away".

The announcement that the fight is off provoked a strong reaction from fans and pundits on Twitter; many criticising Saunders for his complaining.

However, some big names have come out in support of Saunders. Long-time friend, world champion boxer and fellow traveler, Tyson Fury, speaking out on Instagram: "Just got off the phone to Billy Joe and it sounds like they're playing a lot of trick with him, in Texas", "Play fair guys".

Billy Joe's camp has been very vocal, both online and in person, taunting Canelo, trying to get him to agree to a 24ft ring. Barstool Sports reporter, Large, caught the altercation on camera.

There appears to be some confusion on Canelo's side where this disagreement came from. In an interview with the Mexican media, he stated that the ring size was not an issue for him and that he is flexible on the dimensions of the ring.

For now, the fight has been called off and boxing fans have been left disappointed once again.
